PARKING

Residence Hall Permits:

Parking permits are issued at the residence hall at which you are staying. Residents may only issue vehicles owned by themselves, their parents, or their legal guardians. Residence hall parking registration will be conducted on an annual basis, prior to the start of the fall semester and permits will be valid throughout the spring semester as long as the student remains a residence of the hall.

Students with a semester classification of one or two are not eligible to obtain a residence hall permit.

Exceptions:

  • Students in academic programs requiring regularly scheduled classes at locations away from campus where University transportation is not available.
  • Students who must seek treatment for a chronic medical disease or dental problem at locations where public transportation is not available.
  • Students who are employed in an area where public transportation is not available.

A and B Permits:

Persons Eligible:

  • A permits are issued without cost to retired staff members of Purdue University and to widows/widowers of deceased retired staff members upon written application. Widows/widowers must be age 65 and above and must not be employed by the University; they must also not be remarried.
  • Any student that is employed by the University at least 30 hours a week is eligible to purchase and A or B parking permit. To purchase the permit, students must have completed a form signed by his/her employer and also completed the student permit application.
  • Any student that is approved by the parking facilities manager may purchase an A or B parking permit.
  • Any U.S. government or state of Indiana government vehicle may park in any A, B, or C space with no permit (they must show government license plate).

Information:

$150 per year for an A permit.

$60 per year for a B permit.

C Permits:

Areas:

  • Garage Areas: C garage areas are on Northwestern Avenue, Wood Street, Marsteller Street, and University Street. C garage permits are issued for one of the above parking garages and are not valid in any other parking garage.

Persons Eligible:

  • Any registered student whose local place of residence is outside an area of at least 1.5 miles from campus may purchase a C parking permit. (Any student whose local place of residence is outside an area circumscribed by Airport Road, McCormick Road, Cherry Lane, Northwestern Avenue, Ridgewood Drive, Forest Hill Drive, Salisbury Street, Kingston Drive, Rose Street, Lincoln Street extended to the Wabash River, the Wabash River, and the railroad tracks bordering the south end of campus is eligible to purchase a C parking permit.)

Information:

$60 per year.

To purchase a C permit, each student must provide proof of address and a valid driver’s license.

Permits may be purchased for the school year starting August 2. Permits must be returned to the parking facilities upon ineligibility.

Guest Permits:

Guest may park in any A, B, or C parking space.

Persons Eligible:

  • A guest who is performing a service to the University, who is not a Purdue Staff member or student, will be issued a day pass by either the vice president, dean, or department head.

Staff ID Permits:

Staff members may park in A, B, or C areas from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

Persons Eligible:

  • Any staff member is eligible for a staff ID permit.

Conditional, Special, and Temporary Permits:

Persons Eligible:

  • University Vehicle hangtags (UV) are only available to Purdue staff members who are required to utilize their vehicles in doing daily job duties. The UV hangtag must be displayed with a valid A permit. The UV hangtag allows parking in loading zones, or any A, B, or C, parking space.

With reasonable conditions the department may issue parking permits of any kind.

Parking for People with Disabilities:

Persons Eligible:

  • Eligibility for accessible parking is based upon a review of current medical information and the applicant’s current needs. Preference will be given o requests that clearly demonstrate a condition or impairment that substantially limits the applicant’s mobility. A person’s eligibility is also determined by the location of his/her office, classroom, availability of space, and the duration of the disability.
  • Visitors with the appropriate license plate/handicap placard may park at any metered disability space (blue and white handicap signs). Visitors may purchase a daily permit at the rate of $5 from the parking facilities. Disabled American Veteran license plates are exempt from paying the fee.
  • Staff: To be eligible, staff must submit a completed Accessible Parking Accommodation Request Form PF-25. A disability Reserve permit may be issued if a staff member’s disability will not allow him/her to walk from an A permit area to his/her department. The Reserve permit will be issued at the cost of an A permit. Staff members with a Reserve permit may also park in any A, B, or C parking space.
  • Student: To be eligible, students must submit a completed Accessible Parking Accommodation Request Form PF-25. A disability Reserve 90 permit may be issued to students who use wheelchairs. The 90 permit is issued at the cost of a C permit.

 

Visitor Parking:

Parking is available at various locations.

  • Grant Street Parking garage, across from the Purdue Memorial Union, costs in accordance with posted hourly rates at the garage up to a maximum of $10 per day.
  • Daily visitor parking permits maybe purchased from the Parking Facilities Office in the Visitor Information Center located in the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage.
  • Visitors may park in A, B, and C areas after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, unless otherwise posted.
  • Metered parking is also available all throughout campus.

If you are visiting a student living in a residence hall, graduate house, or married student housing, your student host may provide you with a guest parking permit that allows you to temporary park in the spaces marked residence halls, graduate house, or married student housing.

Appeals: A student may appeal a parking violation by completing a student appeal form within 10 days from the date of the formal notice. No appeal will be accepted/ heard unless filed within this time period. An appeal officer will make a decision based on the written appeal. If the student wishes to further appeal, he/she will be given a date to appear before the student court. Failure to schedule the appeal within the time limit will result in the traffic ticket being automatically upheld with no further appeal process. If the appeal is denied, the fine must be paid within 10 calendar days or a $3 late fee will be added. A student’s record will be encumbered for failure to pay a fine.
