Lexis Nexis

Lexis Nexis is a unit of the Reed Elsevier Group and provides access to thousands of web-based articles, websites, journals, and public records. The site gathers its content from over 16,000 databases and the bulk of its content is about tax info, public records, and business articles. Students can use this site through the Purdue libraries to research articles and get information about many different subjects. To use this site, simply enter the name of the article or keywords that you wish to search for and hit the search button, that’s it!

SSINFO

SSINFO is a student services site that has many different services and resources available on it. On SSINFO, you can access your course schedule, access financial information, get a CODO request form, look at progress reports, and even access your grades. These are just some of the many functions that are available through this website. This site also is where a student first goes when setting up their user account on the Purdue Network. Simply go to the Purdue website and click on the SSINFO link at the top of the page.

Purdue Webmail

Purdue Webmail is a free electronic mail service that is provided for free for students and faculty of the university. This is one of the most important technical services provided by the university and is used by many of the professors to communicate with students and share information about projects, upcoming events, homework, and other academic related areas. It is configured so that there is no client software required and all you have to do to access it is go to the website for it. You imply go to the main webmail page, type in your username and password and you are there, that’s it!

Purdue On-Line Library Search Guide

The libraries are a major study tool for many students and have a trained staff that can assist students with finding information and in using some of the other resources available through the library’s website and computer database. There are many different libraries that are geared towards different areas of study. The online Purdue Libraries page is a fast and easy to use tool that allows students to find a great deal of information and resources for whatever research they may do. It also has an informational section that helps students with finding what they need.

Computer Labs

Purdue uses a wide variety of computer systems to allow students to do research and projects on the computers in the computer labs that are provided by the university. Certain labs have different programs installed and are geared toward different areas of study. For example, the computer labs on the 3 rd floor of Knoy hall are geared towards Computer Graphics and have all those programs pre-loaded on them. There are also many general use computer labs such as those found in the residence halls and ones like in Matthews hall. These computers are used by many students to do projects, run programs, and access information for all types of classes. They are open to all students and have printing and scanning facilities, as well as internet access, and each student has their own online account that they can store a limited amount of info.

OWL (Online Writing Lab)

Purdue University offers an Online Writing Lab. It offers help to students that need help writing any type of paper or report. Some of these services include Writing tips through E-mail, various instructions on source citation, writing lab faculty help sessions, workshops, grammar and punctuation help, tips on professional writing and other resources for students who are having difficulty getting ideas or finding information about format data and other related subjects.

WebCT

WebCT is a student and faculty resource that allows the instructor to place course materials online for students to access at any time and use to help them in their course studies. Many instructors already use this program with their courses, mainly for posting homework assignments, posting grades, and can even be used for close course e-mail. This site allows students to access material more easily and now that internet technology has permeated almost every aspect of learning this technology has become crucial for students as well as faculty.
