Alpha Lambda Delta Phi Eta Sigma

National Honor Society

Alpha Lambda Delta Phi Eta Sigma is a combination of two national honor societies at Purdue. Alpha Lambda Delta was primarily an all female national honor society and Phi Eta Sigma was primarily an all male national honor society both designed to promote high academic achievement. They were merged together at Purdue University in the mid-1970s. They are two of the oldest and most prestigious national honor societies. Alpha Lambda Delta was founded at the University of Illinois in 1924 and Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois in 1923. The two honor societies operate as one entity on the Purdue campus, but operate separately at the national level.

All Purdue students who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher during there freshmen year are invited to become member of ALDPES. Once you are initiated and become a member of ALDPES you are a member for life. ALDPES promotes hard work in and out of the classroom.

ALDPES participates in several community service projects each year such as; the tutoring program they have developed to help children who live in the Purdue Village on campus, serving Thanksgiving dinner at the local homeless center, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and taking part in the Walk for Life. ALDPES largest fund raiser is the Academic Super Bowl that they sponsor in the spring, which they give the proceeds for the event to the local Lafayette Adult Resource Academy.

ALDPES is a prestigious national honor society and is an honor to become a member of. Most students who are invited into the organization join the honor society and find it very fulfilling and fun. There are two initiations; one in the spring semester of students' freshmen year for those who achieved the required GPA in their first semester and one in the spring of students' sophomore year for those who achieved the required GPA during their second semester at Purdue. Overall, it is a great opportunity for students who have achieved academic success to become more involved in the community and helps encourage a successful future.
